There are good acting jobs from everyone, although not enough chuckles for a romantic comedy. The film is based on the novel New Cardiff by Charles Webb. Cast includes Colin Firth, Heather Graham, Minnie Driver, Mary Steenburgen, Oliver Platt, and. (92 minutes, 2003)
Sgt. Bilko: An army comedy with Steve Martin, Dan Akroyd and Phil Hartman. Sgt Bilko does basically everything but army duties with his platoon of soldiers. Life in Sgt. Bilko’s army is quite nice. That is until Major Thorn shows up and tries to spoil the fun.
Follow the Fleet: Admirable musical with sai;or Astaire and Scott courting siblings Rogers and Hilliard. Irving Berlin melodies contain “Let’s Face the Music and Dance,” “Let Yourself Go,” “We Noticed the Ocean.” A revising of Beach Leave, a’25 Richard Barthelmess flick, and the’30 film Hit the Deck. That’s Lucille Ball as Cat. Cast includes Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Randolph Scott, Harriet Hilliard Nelson, Astrid AlIwyn, and Betty Grable. (110 minutes,’36)
Clue: Stupid joke whodunit based on the trendy board game of the same name with all the recognizable characters Mrs. Peacock, Colonel Mustard, Miss Red, et al. assembled for a murderous day in a Victorian mansion. Everyone tries extremely hard bet there is nothing they can do to save this weak film. Cast includes Eileen Brennan, Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn, Christopher Lloyd, Michael McKean, Martin Ponder, and Howard Hesseman. (87 minutes,’85)
Mission Impossible III: Ethan Hunt is called back into action to take down a ruthless arms dealer, Owen Davian. They pull off an incredible, and capture Owen at the Vatican. While transporting him into custody, the convoy is attacked, and Owen is freed. Now they must recapture him soon, Ethan’s wife to be has been captured, and time is running out.
Act of the Heart: A religious based film that deals with religion and people who become obsessed with it. A young lady falls in love with a priest in the Catholic Church with obvious difficulties to follow. Stars include Genevieve Bujold, Donald Sutherland, Bill Mitchell, and Monique Leyrac. (1970 Canadian-drama directed by Paul Almond)
There’s Something About Mary: Ted has had a crush on Mary since high school. A good friend convinces Ted to search Mary down. So Ted hires a private detective to locate Mary. This sets the stage for a fun comedy romance.
